The Summit Magazine, Issue 46

The latest issue of The Summit Magazine highlights leadership, entrepreneurship, community impact, and innovation across Northeast Ohio, with Akron Mayor Shammas Malik featured on the cover for his forward-thinking economic development strategy.

In the cover story, Mayor Malik outlines how Akron is investing in small businesses—particularly Black-owned businesses—through targeted grant programs, neighborhood revitalization initiatives like Great Streets Akron, and partnerships with local organizations. His administration’s strategy focuses on pairing financial resources with mentorship, training, and business support systems to help entrepreneurs build sustainable, community-driven economic growth.

This issue also highlights several businesses and leaders shaping the region’s economic and social landscape. Graffitti Print Shop celebrates more than 35 years of providing custom printing and promotional products throughout Northeast Ohio, demonstrating the power of locally rooted businesses. PhiDex Enterprises, led by Drs. Dexter and Philomena Johnson, shares an inspiring story of faith, leadership, and professional excellence through their work helping couples and leaders strengthen relationships and personal growth.

Readers are also introduced to Joyful Interactions, a unique Akron-based retail concept founded by Bianca and Justen Harris that centers culturally inclusive greeting cards, gifts, and community programming designed to reflect diverse identities and experiences. The business has quickly become both a retail destination and a community hub celebrating representation and connection.

In the Community Spotlight, Krista L. Allison is recognized for her extensive public service and leadership across Stark County, including her work supporting families, strengthening education systems, mentoring young people, and advancing civic engagement.

The issue also features Akron author Alan W. Manley Sr. (A.W. DOC) and his latest novel Street Cleaner II – The Reconciliation, continuing a suspenseful story exploring justice, identity, and the consequences of power.

Additional highlights include the upcoming Black Diamonds Women Conference, designed as a supportive space for Black women to connect, lead, and thrive, and a feature on Hess Advanced Solutions, whose patented SmartValve™ technology is helping organizations nationwide reduce water consumption and costs.

Together, the stories in this issue reflect The Summit Magazine’s mission of creating partnerships and promoting diversity by showcasing the innovators, entrepreneurs, community advocates, and leaders driving progress across Ohio.
